We didn’t see many seals or sea lions on our recent boat tour of Kachemak Bay, Alaska. In fact, the only ones I saw were a pair of Steller sea lions on a rock.

They were practically inert during our encounter. Only the individual in the foreground reacted to our presence by occasionally opening its eyes and glancing toward us. It certainly wasn’t the sun that was making them so lazy, for the skies had been overcast for hours when we passed them by.
