One species that nests in the Lake Martin rookery is the Snowy Egret. However, when we visited the rookery a couple of weeks ago, we saw no nesting Snowy Egrets. Donnette was told by someone in the know that it was still a little early for them to be nesting.
We did see this individual perched on a branch. It stayed there quite a while and seemed to be just looking around.

When the egret turned to look in the opposite direction, the breeze gave it what might be called a “bad hair day.”

This turned out to be the only Snowy Egret we spotted that day. An advance scout?
